RUDOSA

FRESH OFF THE BACK OF A SUCCESFUL AMSTERDAM DANCE EVENT, WE CAUGHT UP WITH MANCHESTER BASED MARK BRADBURY, BETTER KNOWN IN RECENT YEARS AS RUDOSA. AFTER A STRING OF RELEASES ON SUARA, INTEC AND SECOND STATE, WE GOT THE LOW DOWN ABOUT WHAT'S NEXT. FEELING BRAVE? READ ON...

Hello Mark, thanks for taking the time to speak with us at Virtus, where in the world are you right now?

Just arrived back in my studio in Manchester from Amsterdam Dance Event. Brilliant trip but I’ve come back with so much work to do.

Rudosa is an interesting name, how did that come about?

I was originally called The Dutch Rudder when I used to play at Sankeys but I quickly outgrew that name so I put it into a Brazilian football shirt generator and it came up with Rudosa Da Costa. So I had that on my laptop desktop till 2013 when I made “Daydreaming” and it gained Loco Dice support. At that point it was time for a change.

You first released music as Rudosa back in 2013, can you tell us how you became interested in producing electronic music?

I was producing all sorts before 2013 but this was when I made a record that I felt was the start of something fresh for me so I started the Rudosa project. I started making music in around 2008 when I decided I wanted to make music similar to what everyone was playing in Sankeys in Manchester where my studio was then above.

Since that first release, your sound has evolved somewhat to the music today releasing on Suara & Second State...has that been a natural progression and what is next for Rudosa's release schedule?

Sure everything has to progress over time, my taste changed and matured and as that happened so did my music not only in sound but in quality. Which has enabled me to be part of these great labels. Coming up I have a 3 track EP on Alan Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brave. I’m really excited about this one as the hype has been huge already.

What has been your favourite release in your career so far?

Up to now I would say my Suara EP, as I gained my first Beatport techno top 10 and all 4 records charted. The DJ support was also crazy on it looking forward to being back on Suara in the future.

On to the DJ side of things...what has been a standout gig for you that you will never forget?

Been lot’s over the years from being a Sankeys resident early in my career to gigs as Rudosa. Every year I have played for the Drumcode Show at Warehouse Project and this year I will be opening room 1. I think that has potential to take the standout gig crown.

Tell us about your company 'Make Me A DJ' and the reasoning behind it?

The school I started in 2008 when I moved into my studio above Sankeys. To start with, it was a way of training a few people to give me money to live and improve my studio. It quickly snowballed into a successful business where we now have our own building with 4 classrooms and studio’s. I have 3 members in the staff team and will be looking to expand again in future. It’s really cool to be able to help people achieve goals and dreams which was not something on offer to me when I started.

In the studio when you are working on music, are there any pieces of hardware or software that you just love to use?

As you can probably tell from my music I love working on getting my low end sounding huge. A huge help for this has been the purchase of a plugin called d16 Punchbox. You can produce some truly great kickdrums and even use it to create a good low rumble.

I could list equipment and plugins all day however I do find people ask about how to achieve great low end a lot in techno and that plugin is a great start.

What producers are you really digging at the moment?

Introversion, Hush & Sleep, Klangkuenstler, Regal, Spektre, Blicz! This list could be huge!!!

Where we can we see you play next?

Muzik Halloween with Alan Fitzpatrick – Really looking forward to this one.

WHP18 /// Adam Beyer Presents Drumcode – As mentioned before my room 1 debut so really excited about this.
