D-DECK

HAILING FROM TURIN IN ITALY, MAURO DI DECO OTHERWISE KNOWN AS D-DECK IS NO STRANGER TO THE TECHNO SCENE. WITH A WHOLE HOST OF IMPRESSIVE RELEASES TO HIS NAME ALREADY, WE CAUGHT UP WITH THE ITALIAN AHEAD OF HIS LATEST SHOWING ON MONIKA KRUSE'S TERMINAL M LABEL.

Hello Mauro, first of all thank you for speaking to us at Virtus, where are you right now?

Hello guys and thank you for having me. I’m in my new studio right now and I’m working on my new demo to launch Maschine MKII.

You are based in Turin, Italy...have you always lived there and what is the club scene like in the city?

Yep I’ve been always living in Turin, I love it! The club scene is very solid and rich of cool parties with international djs. Turin is mostly famous in Italy for big festivals like Movement and Futur.

You join a huge list of extremely talented Italian techno DJ & Producers, do you think it is potentially harder to become noticed in Italy because there are so many trying to achieve the same thing?

Honestly I think it’s just as it is in every Country. You’re right in Italy there are tons of young and talented dj-producers and everyone want to be a top dj, but only your talent is not enough. You have to be special and make a difference, first of all with the music, trying to do something that people will remember and that also goes for the club scene!  And you have to be determinate and constant then a pinch of luck always helps!

You have released on some fantastic labels in the past, Alleanza, Phobiq, KD Raw as well as your own Comade imprint. What is your favourite ever track you have previously released? You can only pick one!

I try not to stick too much to my old tracks ... even if I love to play them! I would answer you my best track is always that track I'm going to release ... but if I have to tell you just only one track ... that is Dakar.

Next up for you is your single 'Opus' alongside Alex Mine on Monika Kruse's Terminal M label. Tell us about how the idea for the track came together and how well received the track has been so far.

Monika and many other big djs played several times “Arte” one of the track produced with Alex released on Kaiserdisco’s KD Raw, so we decided to continue producing music in that direction and Opus just came out.

We sent the track to Monika and she immediately loved it.

We are very proud of it and received a massive positive feedback! We work in the same studio and we often work together, especially during the last two years.

and you ain’t seen nothing yet... something new is almost ready to announce!

You have co-owned your label Comade Music for quite a while now, who else is part of the family and what are your plans for the label moving forward?

Comade Music is a project I started in 2013 together with my two friends and partners in crime Alex Mine and Alex Costa. It's goal is to create a brand, to produce high quality techno music and increasing step by step to eventually compete with top labels. We’ve been partnering with other producers, and in suddendly our tracks were played and supported by many top DJs.

When you are writing music, are there any particular plug-ins you just love to use in every track?

In the first track of my projects there’s always a Maschine loaded and i love to start my creative approach with it.

The second one is Reaktor but you have to consider that i’m an Italian product specialist of Maschine and i love to use all my NI stuff.

Where in the world is your next gig?

Techno Tuesday at Melkweg in Amsterdam and then in my city - Turin

What is one piece of advise for anyone starting to make their own music?

Every time I try to answer this question I'm in trouble because there would be so many things to say, yet I believe the most important are: you always have to keep on feeding your passion, desire to learn and try to create your unique style.
